All of our users can easily install and enjoy our fonts in OpenType format but if you require then in TTF format, please let us know and we’ll be happy to send them in that format Although, we highly recommend when installing any fonts on your computer to only install one font format.

In fact all our Tart Workshop fonts feature an expanded display set which includes the basic 128 standard characters (A-Z, a-z, numbers, punctuation, special characters) plus ALL accented international characters, complete currency characters, and common mathematical symbols. Thanks for asking, we’ve compiled a detailed section all about how our licensing works. If you have a question that starts with “Can I use the font to…” then read about what is permitted in our licensing and uses are restricted just below.

You may use the free Tart Workshop fonts for free in any private, recreational manner for your own communications, or for personal design work you might do for a friend, such as a birthday party invite, an indie band CD, or a personal website.

But if you plan to use the free Tart Workshop fonts in a commercial manner that you will get paid for, or if you are using it for logos, product packaging for other promotional materials printed or online, you must purchase a commercial usage licensed version of the font online or contact us for pricing. If you plan to use this font for non-profit, not-for-profit, or charity design work, you may use any Tart Workshop free font in your design work at no cost provided the non-profit organization sends a sample of the finished work along with a letter acknowledging the donation of a product (value of $99) from the Tart Workshop. First things first! Once you’ve decided that you’re ready to enjoy some of our fine Tart Workshop fonts to create with on your computer, all you have to do to get started is download them!

Any of our FREE Tart Workshop fonts can be downloaded for your personal use and enjoyment and it couldn’t be easier! Just go to the desired font page from our Free Fonts page and click the Download Now button. You’ll be required to enter an e-mail address so we can send you the fonts.

Sperately, if you decided you just can’t live without one of our world-famous Tart Workshop Fonts and have purchased one or more from our site, a download link will be presented to you after your payment has been accepted and all you need to do is click the appropriate link to download the fonts!

Since all our font downloads contain multiple files, in order to offer our fine patrons a single file they can download, we had to ‘zip’ ’em up into a single file for easy use. That means you have to fully ‘un-zip’ the file you downloaded from us before you can access or install the fonts.

These zipped files end with the file extension .zip and can be easily unzipped as follows:

For Windows Users:
Simply right click on the .zip file and select the “Extract All” option, then tell Windows where you’d like the files saved to. Choose a location that is easy to access such as the Desktop. If you don’t see this option when you right-click on the .zip file, download and install jZIP for FREE then try again.

Keep in mind, you must fully unzip the file before you can install the fonts. Just double clicking the .zip file may reveal the contents of the .zip file, but if you attempt to install any fonts from that window, they will report an alert as being corrupt.

For Mac Users:
For most Mac users, your browser will automatically unzip the files you’ve downloaded. By default, these files should appear on the Desktop but sometimes will download directly into your Downloads folder depending on your browser settings and you may need to hunt them down locally after downloading them.

If they do not unzip and double clicking doesn’t seem to work, simply download a FREE copy of Stuffit Expander and either drag the .zipped file on to the Stuffit Expander icon on the Desktop or while holding down the control key, click on the .zip file and select the option: Open With > Stuffit Expander.

Once you’ve got your fonts unzipped and you’re ready to start using ’em, one thing to keep in mind is that OpenType fonts contain lots of really cool features not available in standard font formats including alternate characters, automatic design features and more. HOWEVER, unless you’re using a program that can see these features, you likely will not be able to take advantage of this magical font format. All Adobe CS/CC products and Quark 7 and higher can use these advanced features with more supported daily.

Windows Users

For Windows 7/8/8.1/10 Users:
Simply right click on the font you wish to install and select ‘Install’

For Windows Vista Users:
Click the Start button, and then launch the Control Panel
Click Appearance and Personalization
Click on Fonts
At the top, click File, then Install New Font – If you don’t see the file menu, press the ALT key
Browse to the folder that contains the fonts you want to install, then select each holding down the Control key if you wish to select multiple fonts
Once selected, simply click the Install button to install the fonts
For Windows XP Users:
Click the Start button, and then launch the Control Panel
Click Appearance and Personalization
Click on Fonts from the See Also panel at left
At the top, click File, then Install New Font
Browse to the folder that contains the fonts you want to install, then select each holding down the Control key if you wish to select multiple fonts
Once selected, simply click the OK button to install the fonts
Macintosh Users

For Macintosh OSX Users:
Double-click the OS X hard drive icon
Open the Library folder
Open the Fonts folder
Drag the fonts into the Fonts folder
For Macintosh OS 9 Users or Earlier:
Quit any open applications
Select contents of the OpenType folder
Drag contents to your unopened system folder
A window will come up asking you if you want them installed. Click ‘OK’
Restart your Mac
If you use a large number of fonts on your Macintosh, a font management utility is highly recommended.

If installation was successful, your fonts should now be installed and will appear in the menu of every application that uses a font menu. If you still don’t see the fonts after installation try restarting your computer. If you don’t see the font, it may be listed under a different name in the font menu so make sure you give it a good look over. And when all else fails, fill our an online support request.

When you buy fonts from any font foundry, you’re not buying the fonts at all but really the license to use the fonts on your computer. With every font or font set you purchase and download, the terms of that license are also downloaded with the fonts so you can read about any restrictions for those fonts. Instead of licensing our fonts based on the number of computers you have at your location, we license our fonts based on the number of people or ‘end users’ who will be using them. Additionally if you’ve got multiple computers you work on, you’re allowed to install the fonts on up to two computers you use so long as they aren’t in use at the same time.

In general after you purchase the fonts, you can use the fonts for almost anything you wish in a commercial manner as long as it doesn’t violate the terms of our licensing agreement which you can read here.

Overall, you may not redistribute or resell any of the fonts nor can you modify and resell them as your own work. Beyond that, there are three distinct uses that require additional licensing.

Letter form, Alphabet Products and Personalized Products includes, but are not limited to, scrapbooking uses involving reproductions of individual letterforms, including but not limited to digital alphabets (Alphas); adhesive sticker alphabet products; use in the creation of signage or numbering products; monogram products; rubber stamps; die-cut products, stencil products; tattoo, flash, or converted into software or by other means for the purposes of producing alphabet or letterforms by the use of sewing and/or embroidery machines; die-cut devices and plotters or any other product producing or containing any image of the letterforms or images derived from the design of the Font embodied in the Font Software of which any likeness of the alphabet can be reproduced where the letterform or alphabet product will be distributed or resold; on physical goods, by way of example only, T-shirts personalized for sale. For the purpose of clarity, these restrictions do not apply to laser or inkjet printers used for those purposes generally associated with design, graphic and industrial design or to sign-making facilities provided the end product is a finished, ready to use sign.

Broadcast, Exhibition, Internet and Film Usage includes, but is not limited to the use of the Font Software to create titling and/or credits for any broadcast via television, the Internet and/or cable and/or motion picture distribution and/or exhibition. For use in film or in television broadcasts and where a license has been granted, the terms of any such License are normally limited to an annual broadcast season or the initial release. Unless otherwise provided for, broadcast usage licensing must be renewed prior to following season (whether original or re-rerun, both foreign and domestic) to retain the granted license. Failure to renew a broadcast, exhibition and film usage license is a breach of this license causing significant monetary harm to Tart Workshop. Additional licensing options are available.

Embedded in Electronic Devices includes, but is not limited to, the use of the Font Software for any on-screen display or in an electronic device. For example, and not by way of limitation, such electronic devices include electronic books, kiosks or gaming devices and some forms of gaming machines. Use of the Font in the creation of or as part of a Company Logo is permitted. Upon the purchase of a license upgrade the Font Software may be embedded and resident within an electronic device provided it cannot be extracted from the device. NOTE: This restriction may not apply to a laptop or notebook depending upon the license you purchased.

The embedding or other use of the Fonts or the outlines thereof, in software or other works distributed electronically and/or via physical media for sale is prohibited under this License. Any such use requires the express written permission by Tart Workshop and may or may not require the purchase of a license upgrade at the sole discretion of Tart Workshop.
